Walk raises funds for Living Streets
A WALK around the Castel lanes raised funds for the Living Streets charity.
The 12th annual Tranquillity Walk attracted some 18 people but unusually there were no dog walkers on this occasion.
‘We did have one member with a small child in a pushchair,’ said Living Streets chairman Tom Le Pelley.
He had devised the route, which set out from Deslisles Church and took participants through lanes around Les Beaucamps High School and the Castel Hospital.
‘I wanted to start off on a fairly busy main road so we could see the difference between that and when we got into the quiet lanes down by Les Beaucamps and the hospital,’ he said.
From there the group walked through a green lane by the Les Touillets mast and enjoyed some impressive views of the north of the island.
There was no charge for the walk but donations were taken, which Mr Le Pelley said raised more than £100.
‘I’m very grateful that the weather held off and we had a good walk and everybody seemed to enjoy it,’ he said.
He was already thinking about next year’s walk and said that since he had already covered all the parishes he could well start again with the first route the walk took.
The money will be put towards upkeep of the Baubigny Schools pathway, which was developed by the group in 2010 to enable students to walk safely to Le Murier and St Sampson’s High schools.
Funds are also being raised by Living Streets through the sale of calendars and cards designed by charity member Pat Wisher.
