Developers Comprop yesterday announced the ‘practical completion’ of the Premier Inn at Admiral Park and handed it over to Whitbread, the chain’s owners.

Work on the 100-bedroom hotel began in summer 2020 and has been completed on schedule.

But the Covid pandemic has provided some setbacks and the opening has now moved to early next year.

This latest step is seen as a significant move towards the completion of phase one at Admiral Park by Comprop.

It will be the first Premier Inn in Guernsey and Comprop managing director Steve Marie said it was delighted to announce the handover.

‘Working closely with JW Rihoy & Son, and a large team of professionals including the Whitbread team, we have together guided the project through two lockdowns due to the global pandemic,’ he said.

‘Everyone connected with this project has pulled together through these unprecedented times – maintaining our close working relationship with the Planning Department, and being supported by local utilities and service providers, including the fire service, all of whom we wish to thank for their part in getting us to this important stage.’

He said the remainder of the infrastructure is due to completed by the end of January, followed soon after by the in-house restaurant/brasserie.

Comprop has also invested in the surrounding infrastructure and environment, again along with JW Rihoy.

Whitbread is now looking for between 25 and 30 permanent staff for the Premier Inn, with an email address set up and recruitment days planned over the coming weeks.

As well as the bedrooms there will be 30,000sq. ft of office accommodation, a 2,700sq. ft restaurant and a 384-space multi-storey car park.
