Footpath at Pecqueries realigned

THE coastal path at Les Pecqueries is being restored and moved slightly further away from the beach following storm damage in the area.

The work has been carried out on behalf of the States by Environment Guernsey.

‘We’ve been realigning and restoring the coastal path after it had taken a certain amount of storm damage over the years with the waves coming over eroding it,’ said company spokesman Jamie Hooper.

Stones and debris on the path had forced walkers to walk on the grass verge so the decision was taken to shift it a couple of feet closer to the road.

Once the new pathway was cut, piles of stone dust were laid out ready to be spread.

The project was funded by the States through Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services, which employs Environment Guernsey to maintain the island’s coastal paths, with this work being rather more than usual.

Mr Hooper said that once the work was finished nearby sections that were not completely replaced were given a top dusting of new stone.

Other paths that are likely to require attention soon are the one running alongside the shingle bank at L’Eree and a path at Grandes Rocques.
