Latvian douzenier gets national recognition
GUERNSEY’S only Latvian douzenier has been recognised by a website based in her home country as someone who had attracted the most interest during the year.
Evita Bormane was elected to St Peter Port douzaine in November and soon afterwards she said she was interviewed by the Latviesi.com website.
Alongside Ms Bormane in the list were Latvians in Germany, Georgia, Cambodia, London and South America.
These people were entrepreneurs, advertising agency workers, youth workers, a blogger and activist and even a tango coach.
She said it was a great surprise when she found out. ‘They reached out shortly after the election and we had a little interview and I thought that was that.
‘But it was very, very nice to be recognised this way.’
‘Latvian changes history in Guernsey,’ was the headline on the website, which Ms Bormane said is a media portal giving information about Latvians all over the world.
‘At the end of November, six new members of the Douzeniers, elected on 17 November, came to court in St Peter Port, the capital of Guernsey, to take the oath of office,’ said the site’s short profile piece.
‘For the first time in history, Evita Bormane is also in their ranks.’
