Young ad designers receive their prizes
MORE than 200 junior school pupils, staff and parents, attended the Guernsey Press Design-An-Ad awards ceremony at St Pierre Park Hotel.
The competition – which sees children aged between five and 16 design adverts for local companies – is in its 27th year.
More than 30 sponsors took part, with prizes including vouchers, toys, sweets, art equipment, gadgets and certificates offered to both junior and senior school children.
‘The competition seems to be getting stronger and stronger,’ said Guernsey Press field sales manager Sally Barton, who hosted the ceremony.
‘It’s great, because the prizes go to a mixture of different schools and children. The junior ceremony is always lovely as the children like to bring their parents, grandparents, and siblings along.’
After each award was given out, the top three children in each category had their photograph taken.
Children could send in as many designs as they wished. Some chose to hand-draw their entries, while others opted for computerised drawings.
Overall winner of the juniors, Beatrice Wilson, aged 11, who attends The Ladies’ College Melrose, said that she had entered every year that she had been at school.
She submitted three different designs, all of which were hand-drawn.
‘I really enjoy drawing,’ she said. ‘I did all of them by hand.’
She thought a career in design might be something that she would be interested in.
The overall winner of the schools was The Ladies’ College, Melrose, who picked up the top prize of £1,000.
St Martin’s Primary School was second, winning £500, while Blanchelande College took third place and £250.
n A 72-page full colour supplement featuring photographs of both junior and senior winners, and interviews with the winning schools, will be published on 14 July.
