PC Adam Potter and PC Mathew DuPort from the island’s Roads Policing Unit will join 2,000 officers from around the UK to be sworn in as West Midlands Police Special Constables to patrol on their motorbikes.

‘As an organisation we are really pleased to be able to support both the Commonwealth Games and Team Guernsey at this event,’ said Ruari Hardy, head of law enforcement.

‘We have been able to benefit from mutual aid support from UK forces in recent years, so this was an excellent opportunity for us to give back some support in return, as well as it being invaluable experience for some of our specialist officers.’

West Midlands Police appealed for additional support to provide security at the Games and Guernsey Police were able to provide officers with the specialist skills required.

Guernsey officers were keen to help out as local athletes would be taking part in the games.

It was also an ideal opportunity for the officers to gain some experience policing at a sporting event ahead of the Island Games being hosted in Guernsey next year.
