Two in PEH after car smashes through railings

A SERIOUS accident involving a single Smart Car closed the seafront for more than three hours yesterday evening.

The car came from the direction of the Weighbridge taxi rank, crossed the northbound lane of traffic on North Esplanade, crashed through the fencing in the middle of the road and ended up wrapped around a lamppost outside the Weighbridge clock tower.

No other cars were involved.

The two occupants were taken to hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at approximately 5.45pm and all emergency services were at the scene soon after.

Civil protection officers arrived at about 6.15pm to help manage traffic.

The seafront was shut from the Weighbridge roundabout to the Albert Pier to allow police accident investigators to work.
