The Smile for Georgie Foundation is behind the Songs For Smiles event, which is being staged by Music Theatre Guernsey, in association with Guernsey Arts at the Princess Royal Centre for the Performing Arts.

The charity is meeting the costs of the venue for the event. Trustee Jenny Le Prevost said the concert followed a similar one last year.

‘We wanted to continue showcasing the amazing local talent that we have and provide the public with a really fun night by taking everyone on a journey through some of cinema’s most iconic musical moments featuring songs from ABBA, Les Miserables, Shrek and Bond classics, plus many more,’ she said.

‘There is a song for everyone, young or old, but tickets are going really fast so if people are unable to attend please pass your tickets on to others.

‘We hope that this small act of kindness will put a smile on the faces of not only those attending the shows but also the performers and orchestra to whom we are really grateful.’

Guernsey Arts’ community and public realm officer Jade Kershaw said the performances gave an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the thrill of musical theatre as performed by MTG.

‘Guernsey Arts aims to promote, support and inspire and are so pleased to be able to support this initiative, engaging with our wider community to allow everyone access to our wonderful arts scene,’ she said.

MTG’s Dan Galliott is producing the show and said that after a successful ‘songs from Disney’ last year, which was aimed primarily at children, the group thought songs from films would appeal to a wider audience.

‘There are some fantastic movies out there with some incredible songs attached to them,’ he said.

About 30 performers plus a band will be appearing in the show.

‘We understand that the big shows are fantastic to do but obviously there’s always a cost to that and we wanted to put something on which everyone is able to come and enjoy.’
