What officers are describing as an ‘aggravated burglary’ took place at Vale Garage on Braye Road in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The wanted person entered the Vale Service Station between 3.30 and 3.45am and assaulted a member of staff on duty, causing injuries that required hospital treatment.

The individual attempted to steal items from the safe before leaving on foot in the direction of Route des Coutures.

The suspect was described as wearing dark clothing and carrying a dark-coloured rucksack.

Crimestoppers is offering a £750 reward.

The garage remained closed all day and colleagues of the member of staff said they did not want to comment while enquiries were ongoing.

An eyewitness who passed the garage early in the morning said the petrol pumps were cordoned off and police officers were in attendance.

They said the shop door was open at the time and the interior looked as though it had been ‘smashed around’.

It is the second burglary of a garage forecourt shop in the last few weeks.

Earlier this month police appealed for witnesses after two men broke into the shop at Doyle Motors and stole cigarettes and scratchcards at about 1am on a Sunday morning.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

‘Particularly if you were in the area at the time or have dash cam or CCTV footage,’ the spokesperson said.

‘This was a particularly violent offence and Crimestoppers is offering a reward of £750 for information leading to the arrest, charge and conviction of the offender.’
