Approval of the amendment this week appears to have paved the way for work to start later this year on establishing a new base for The Guernsey Institute on the site of the former St Peter Port School.

‘We believe this is tremendous news for the construction industry and its entire local supply chain,’ said Mr Bampkin.

‘Deputy Trott’s proactive approach and optimistic outlook on Guernsey’s future should translate into the inward investment so long overdue and so sorely needed for education.’

He hoped that there would be a swift execution of the plans. It was also good news that it would free up the institute’s site at the Coutanchez for housing, which Mr Bampkin said was ‘a huge double benefit, not just to the construction industry but for the whole island, its desperate need for more housing and its economy.

‘Well done to P&R. It’s encouraging to see its new incumbents moving quickly and this demonstrates that where there’s determination and alignment, we can resolve the long-standing issues of the island.’

The forum was keen to engage with the States to ensure that the island’s construction industry was best placed to deliver on this project, he said.
