It wants to install gates and fencing to the water bunker, fencing to the machine gun Tobruk and a replica steel tank turret, and expose a buried machine gun embrasure.

The area is currently buried under greenery, which Festung wants to avoid disturbing as much as possible.

‘We will be doing the works while trying not to disturb the biodiversity of the area and leave as much of the greenery as possible,’ said project coordinator Paul Bourgaize.

Mr Bourgaize said that, after excavation, the water bunker would remain hidden by greenery and only a set of steel steps either side of the bunker would be visible.

The replica tank turret will be positioned on the edge of the path a little lower than the water bunker.

‘If all goes well with the application, we are expecting to have the work done this year,’ said Mr Bourgaize.

‘The Tourism Development Fund have given us the funds to complete phase two of the works here at Fort Hommet.’
