Known to Mylk Market Kiosk as Steve, the seagull positions himself on a nearby lamppost, watching over customers in search of his next snack, before stealing biscuits given to customers on top of the coffee.

Business owner Liene Rozlapa said that Steve had been causing havoc for customers for a year or two.

‘We have a lot of regular customers who know about Steve, but with new customers we do tell them to be careful,’ she said.

‘We have a sign up as a warning but sometimes people think it’s a joke until it happens to them.’

Some customers choose to put a napkin over their biscuit in protection.

Others cover it with their hand or eat it immediately.

‘Some people are actually a bit traumatised.

‘The seagulls often hang around here on the steps and sometimes they hide on the roofs around and then hover over people,’ she added.
