St Martin’s Primary undergoes maintenance and refurbishment
PUPILS at St Martin’s Primary School will be enjoying two completely refurbished classrooms this school year.
The classrooms have new ceilings, lighting, carpets and interactive smart boards which are touch screen and do not require a projector.
The carpet was previously brown, but has been replaced with a dark blue, in line with the new carpets installed in other schools.
New carpets have also been installed in the head and deputy head's offices and music room.
A mural will be going on the wall of the music and drama studio, which is a school project supported by Education, Sport & Culture.
‘We go for darker carpets so children can have messy play and they will stay looking nicer for longer,’ said States of Guernsey building maintenance manager James Jordan.
‘Some of the carpets were in a really bad condition, so those have been replaced, and the lighting has also been upgraded.
‘Pretty much every school will have something done, even if it’s just preventative maintenance, but the bigger projects which need it the most will go ahead first.’
The school’s office has also seen some improvements.
The reception office used to be at an angle and has now been brought forward.
The sign-in system has been modernised, the wires tidied and run through the wall and the changes have created more office space.
At the end of the summer term a set of toilets became completely blocked and could not be used.
New pipework has been installed to get them working again.
