The Guernsey Housing Association is working in partnership with a private developer to create key worker housing on a field near the back entrance of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

Top soil removed from that development at the Oberlands has been taken to another of the GHA’s development sites at the Saltpans, which has been named Parc Le Lacheur, under a scheme backed by the planning authorities.

That site could eventually have up to 135 homes, but currently it is a pitted former glasshouse site.

Chief executive Vic Slade said the GHA wanted to make best use of all its resources.

‘We wanted to look at how we could reuse the soil,’ said Ms Slade.

‘So we have used it to fill in all the holes and depressions to flatten it out.’

She added that dumping it as inert waste would have been costly.

While the work has helped prepare Parc Le Lacheur for development, it is likely to be some time before any housing is built there, as concerns about flooding still need to be resolved and planning applications are yet to be prepared, submitted and considered.
