More than 1,800 people swam lengths of the pool at Beau Sejour over the five days of this year’s fundraiser, which was raising money for the GSPCA.

The event is organised by the Lions Club of Guernsey and the Guernsey Round Table, with John Stuart heading up the Swimarathon organising committee.

‘The amount of money raised increased on last year, as did the number of miles covered,’ he said.

‘In total 1,853 people swam lengths for charities, and even though that was 126 fewer than in 2023, more was raised than at last year’s event. The number of miles swam also improved, with 23 more kilometres being swum than the previous year. Maybe this shows that the population of Guernsey is getting fitter?'

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne welcomed the support.

‘The GSPCA had a great time supporting the Swimarathon and really got into the spirit of things by entering a team,’ he said.

‘We are so thankful to be the beneficiary of this year’s Skipton Swimarathon, the money raised will be spent on new pools for our sea life, including rescued seals.’

The remainder of the funding will be split between other local charitable causes chosen by the Lions Club of Guernsey and the Guernsey Round Table.

Skipton International sponsored the event and chief commercial officer Charlotte Dunsterville said it was proud to support it.

A full presentation for all trophy winners will be taking place at Beau Sejour on Wednesday 16 October between 6pm and 7pm, and all are welcome to attend. Those who were not able to collect their swimming medals at the time of participating can also collect them at this event.
