ANOTHER step has been made in the Bailiwick taking control of fishing in the three- to 12-mile limit.

Yesterday, Sark's parliament approved a proposal to sign an agreement that will eventually see the limit imposed in Bailiwick waters.

The aim is also to impose licensing conditions on vessels wanting to operate in the area, to limit the destruction of fishing grounds.

It is hoped that the fisheries management agreement between Defra in the UK, Marine Scotland, the Welsh Assembly, Commerce and Employment in Guernsey, Chief Pleas and the States of Alderney will be signed by the end of October.
