A baby boy has been dubbed a true Sarkee by his parents after being born in the back of the island's tractor ambulance.

A baby boy has been dubbed a true Sarkee by his parents after being born in the back of the island's tractor ambulance.

Leanne and Matt Joyner, 23 and 34, expected their new arrival, Warren Samuel, to be born last Monday and Mrs Joyner would have been induced today if she had not gone into labour early yesterday morning.

Former Sark constable Mr Joyner said the pair had phoned the island doctor at 1.45am and were transported to the quay to meet the Flying Christine just before 3am in the island ambulance – an old ambulance trailer towed by tractor.

Mrs Joyner said the midwife, Gill, who had been transferred to Sark by the Flying Christine, was wonderful.

'When she arrived she examined me and said the only way I was going to be getting on the boat was with the baby,' she said.
