Over the weekend, pupils in Year 8 and staff were tested after one of the year group tested positive.

Head teacher Vicky Godley said the school had been working with Public Health Services, which was carrying out significant contact tracing work around this case.

‘A deep clean of the school is also being carried out now,’ she said in an update on the school’s website.

‘It may not be necessary to test other year groups, but Public Health will review the situation after the weekend and contact any other groups it considers necessary. If you don’t hear from Public Health, please do not instigate testing yourselves unless you are symptomatic.’

Director of Public Health Dr Nicola Brink paid tribute to the pupils in yesterday’s press conference after they were tested at the testing tent on Saturday.

‘I was speaking to the nurses at the testing tent this morning, and they said their behaviour was exemplary,’ she said.

‘They said they were co-operative, they were helpful, they were polite and a real credit to their school. So thank-you to those students individually and thank-you also to the school.’

No details have yet been released about which parts of Hautes Capelles Primary School, which has been named as a school of interest, have been affected.

The school is one of the largest primary schools in the island, with more than 500 pupils from Reception to Year 6.
