It may be cheap but in this luxurious city car trim, the Picanto boasts 14in. alloy wheels, electrically adjustable door mirrors, air-con, Bluetooth, electric windows all round, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearknob, as well as driver’s seat-height adjustment and reversing sensors.

The interior is neat and stylish with chrome and gloss contrast details, convenient storage and a multi-function steering wheel. Compared to the VW Up and Hyundai i10, the Picanto rides a little heavier but well-judged damping helps to softly absorb even the peskiest of potholes and bumpy tracks. It also handles corners with arguably better hold on the road with accurate and light steering that made light work of the winding roads of west coast.

Thanks to a tight turning circle, aided by parking sensors, it was easy to park and manoeuvre on narrow roads and as you built up speed there was a satisfying (but not annoying) growl. Kia has gone for highly responsive brakes here but you come to appreciate this after a little getting used to. All in all, the Picanto makes for a comfortable drive with more than enough fun features for the price tag.
