This is the moment an empty bus rolled backwards down a road, mounted a kerb and hit a tree before shunting forward and coming to a stop.

A car nearly collided with the wayward bus and can be heard sounding its horn in a video of the bizarre moment which has been shared online.

Luckily, no-one was hurt in the incident in Corporation Street in Tamworth.

Student Connor Hepple, 17, was waiting for the number three bus to take him from Tamworth to Coton Green when the drama unfolded and he started filming.

“It was empty and the driver was on his break or swapping drivers.”

The incident happened at 3.30pm on September 27 and involved an Arriva Saphire single-decker bus.

Connor added: “I didn’t get on the bus. I walked home instead.”

He shared video of the incident on Facebook captioned “self-driving buses now available”.

Connor, who is studying A-levels at King Edward VI Sixth Form in Lichfield, added: “A lot of people I know are confused about why it moved how it did.”

People can be seen running after the bus.
