Make Guernsey a positive place

I'M GOING to start bluntly. I do not trust our government one bit. There are many reasons why I feel the need to make such a statement so I shall simply ask a few questions and briefly skim over a few to save some time. Although, given I have been told by one deputy I should read the 400 or so pages of political rubbish that comes out before each meeting, which I don't understand given all the terminology and the endless waffling about subjects, trying to be intelligent and making things much more complicated than they should be, then maybe I should do the same to our deputies?

No, I'm more realistic, as I know they have enough on their plate as it is (bit like us, really).

Why do we need a new location for cruise passengers? Who asked for it? Was it the cruise operators or was it the passengers? Did anyone approach or even think about approaching a few operators to gauge their opinions? Who allowed the changes to the landing location/harbour to go through? Why do we need single lane traffic on the seafront when all it has done is cause more congestion? Why are we ignoring 65,000 people for the sake of a few people every few weeks – do we not matter, given we actually live here? Why do we need extra taxes – what happened to our money that each taxpayer hands over each month/year? Why is it OK to tax people to breaking point? Who suggested making Town workers pay to go to work? Why does our health service need extra funds? Where does our money go and why should I, along with every other islander, hand over any more money when it gets wasted? When are we going to see resignations of deputies who are the main causes of the issues?

We are not a bank, we do not give loans and I am fed up (couldn't put what I actually felt) of being treated like we, the taxpayers, are the ones at fault when we are the ones who actually give a damn about our home.

I am 27, semi-employed and I plan to get married next year. I do not have children, although I would like to raise a family as I'm sure most of my age group or people of similar ages would like to do – some may already have a family.

Given how the island is operating, I am not prepared to bring up any family in this disorganised, over-priced and uncertain climate which certain people see as 'OK'.

We pay people to do a job and while I appreciate that some genuinely have the island at heart and listen to the people, there are a select number of deputies who can't seem to grasp how fed up this island really is. Our government is locked in its own little world and doesn't care about the outside world – as long as they get their £40k or whatever it is, they are happy. I wish I was earning half that.

OK, maybe I shouldn't be so judgemental – I do not have time to sieve through endless figures or read 400 pages of terminology I don't understand. Politics will always be a grey area for me and I do not pretend to know what half of the dribble coming out every month actually means (similar feeling within the States, I guess?). I do know, though, that the vast amount of negative comments on social media and the petitions being made tell me I am not alone.

It was not my fault the airport went over budget, it was not my fault we, sorry the government, lost £2.6m. to a scam, and it was not my fault we have a black hole to fill.

I did not ask for a new cruise liner landing point and, I believe, neither did the cruise liners. I did not ask for something to be done about the parking to accommodate said cruise liners and I certainly did not ask to be treated like a nobody, which seems the norm with the States at the moment.

The only thing I am at fault over is allowing my hard-earned taxes to be put in the trust of the government, who obviously can't handle it.

I simply cannot put my emotion down with this letter at how utterly fed up and annoyed I am at those who 'run' our island.

People are at breaking point.

If I do a bad job, I am accountable and I simply don't say, 'OK, give me an extra £300 and I'll sort it'.

Please, make Guernsey a positive place. I don't want to move. This is my home and, like many others, I will not move without a fight. I worry for my future and also the future generations being born into a hell hole caused by ignorance.

So, deputies and associated island wreckers, you have one last chance before this island sinks. We demand the truth and simple plain answers that everyone can understand. Don't mess it up.

(I think you get the idea).
