Electric way ahead for cars
I WAS very pleased to see that the island is soon to have its first public charging point for cars at the North Beach car park. Hopefully this will be the first of many.
I have always been a bit sceptical of this newish technology, but having been to the UK recently and seen for myself how charging points are now springing up in service stations and hotels, my views have changed dramatically and it became obvious to me that this has to be the way forward for this and other islands.
Electric car technology is moving on apace, with the cars that I saw (Tesla) capable of travelling up to 300 miles on a charge and a speed of 0-60mph in four seconds.
We must recognise that the days of fossil fuel vehicles are coming to an end and I for one would not now consider buying a brand new petrol/diesel vehicle that over the next five years will depreciate dramatically, whereas electric vehicles will come down in price.
The future is definitely electric and we must embrace it.
