You would hardly notice 45,000 solar panels on our roofs
YOUR front page article of 8 June explained that 45,000 solar panels would be needed to meet our sustainability and energy targets. If you are not used to solar panels that gives the impression of a vast number of panels stretching across all the homes of Guernsey. But, in fact, a normal family home like ours has 24 panels just on our garage roof. No one seems to notice them unless they’re interested in looking at PV (photo-voltaic) panels. To reach the number of 45,000 we’d actually need just 1,875 houses like ours, and it’s even more likely that multi-story commercial buildings will mount 100 panels or more on their roofs, meaning fewer individual homes will need to have solar panels. I strongly support the proposals put forward for energy independence.
