So-called affordable housing is not affordable at all

SO OUR illustrious leaders think we need more people in the island. There are people sleeping on sofas in friends’ houses.

Published

There are people sleeping in tents that have no ways or means of having a cup of tea or coffee. They are trying to hold down full-time employment and their first drink in the morning is from a machine when they get to work.

Many are sleeping on just ground sheets and all this luxury will be taken away in a few weeks’ time because the campsites will close for the winter. Affordable housing is a joke (and not a funny one either). What is it about the fact that people are sleeping on sofas in friends’ houses or in tents you do not understand? It is not rocket science to realise your so-called affordable housing is not affordable at all. Do you think these people want to live as they are? Families are being heartbreakingly ripped apart because the younger generation (their children) cannot afford to live here so they are moving to England and beyond so they can at least have some of their hard-earned money for themselves and have a little luxury for their labours. The finishing touches are being made to the complete downfall and the end of the Guernsey person and our once happy way of life.
