Where are the States going to find the required civil servants to run GST?
SO, THE great GST debate is still running and the voices of nearly 5,000 people are being ignored. I have a simple question. When the Revenue Services cannot get the income tax up to date, where exactly are the States going to magic up the required civil servants to run GST? I would imagine that you would need around 60 civil servants, where will they come from and more importantly, at what cost?
So, what is the alternative? I am currently being diagnosed with prostate cancer and have had three scans of various types. Now, I am paying two, perhaps 2.5% towards specialist care and that is in no way covering the costs of my treatment. My wife had breast cancer over 10 years ago and again, she had great care but again at a high cost.
So, I would propose a 2.5% increase in the specialist care contributions. I would also propose a 2.5 % increase in income tax for those earning over £50,000 a year with a 5% increase for over £100,000 year. Both these items would require minimal staff costs. I would be quite happy to pay for my prescription charges and these should be means tested with the proviso that those funds be ring fenced solely to help pay for the expensive NICE approved drugs.
For all those who oppose any income tax increases, I understand that the war income tax was at 25% to rebuild our infrastructure. Please don’t tell me the rich will leave. Where else would they get same-day, face-to-face doctor appointments? Where else would they be relatively safe in their homes and out and about? No muggers, very few burglaries and a low crime rate with a pretty decent climate. If they want to give that up for a paltry 5% then they can leave with my blessing.
