Route Militaire is akin to the Santa Pod Raceway at the weekends

AT LAST some common sense.

Published

I fully agree and endorse the views of Lester Queripel (Guernsey Press, 27 January 2024) and these should have the support of the Environment & Infrastructure Committee.

Regarding the noise and speed nuisance which has been going on for far too long, and currently having to endure.

This is a problem island-wide and needs to be seriously addressed, now.

As a resident on the Route Militaire, at the weekends the road is akin to the Santa Pod Raceway. Cars and bikes racing each other, cars especially with engine modifications to increase power and speed, turbo upgrades with wastegate are the reason of the ‘pop bang’ with every gear change, to say the least very annoying.

Just to reiterate this is an everyday occurrence on the Route Militaire i.e. raceway. Noise and speed are becoming a serious safety issue. Walking on the road with no pavement – people are taking their life in their hands.

These boy racers who must have a very high-paid job can afford pocket-money fines, but a £1,000 fine and a more lengthy ban would maybe have them thinking twice about speeding and spending money on expensive engine modifications.

This should also invalidate insurance cover (not original spec).

Please, please take this on board before a fatality or serious injury is incurred because of this selfish, stupid and reckless behaviour.

Too late to realise after the event.
