KRISTINA NEVES has clinched a place on the British team for the European Junior Championships.

Yesterday, in London's new Olympic pool, the 15-year-old broke her own island record by placing second in her age-group over the 800m freestyle.

After posting a 8min. 51.52sec. her chances of gaining a GB cap in Belgium this July, appeared good, but she had to wait several hours for confirmation.

'She is chuffed to bits,' said her mother Michelle.

Miles Munro, also 15, placed runner-up in his age-group for the 50m freestyle. He clocked 24.08 and in so doing broke the island record previously held by Matt Girard.

Ian Powell placed 19th overall in the 100m butterfly, just missing out on a semi-final spot.
