JASON BROWN made Guernsey Mullet Club history in the first round of the Mick's Fishing Supplies open mullet competition.
Only 37 people entered – a little down on the 2011 entry of 44 participants.
As it turned out catches were the best that the open had seen in its 25-year history.
Saturday's weigh in saw nine competitors bringing back 11 mullet to the scales for a total weight of 42-10-14, plus five others that were weighed but returned alive.
Brown was the star of the first weigh in with a massive fish of 7-9-12 – the biggest mullet ever recorded in the open competition.
