BARRACUDAS youngsters Miles Munro and Leah Winberg produced encouraging performances at the South East Regional Swimming Championships in the K2 Pool at Crawley.

Both are in heavy training in preparation for the forthcoming Island Games and competing at the top of the 15/16 age group. It was Munro's aim to have one last shot at breaking the British record of 23.37sec., which he currently shares with James Burden, City of Coventry, before moving into the 17-plus age group.

Despite a gallant effort and taking top spot ahead of Liam O'Brien, of Maxwell, he was outside the record by 0.8sec.

Despite his disappointment, Munro then went on to win gold in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.11 and again in the 50 butterfly with a time of 26.56.
