IT WAS a disappointing result for the team representing Guernsey at this year's Inter-Insular staged at Haut Vallee Swimming Pool in Jersey.

Competing in an unfamiliar pool did not help, neither did the absence of several key swimmers who were unavailable for this annual clash.

Having won the title the previous year by just a three-point margin in their home pool, Guernsey had their work cut out to repeat this performance in Jersey.

However, the event got off to a good start with both teams on equal points at half time.

Yet despite a gallant effort by the Sarnians to claw back points in the second half, Jersey surged ahead to take the title 238.5-180.5.

There were just two records throughout the meet – one coming from Miles Munro in the 16 and over age group who clocked up a time of 51.70 to take Jeremy Osborne's 100m freestyle record set in 2009, and one from Jersey's 14/15 relay team setting a record in the 4 x 50 freestyle event – breaking the record previously held by Guernsey.
