Maiden voyage to forget for Sauvarin
WITH the World Championships on home soil just two days away, Tom Sauvarin had a baptism of fire in his maiden outing in his brand new monohull boat.

Sauvarin, who won the 3B Offshore World Championship with fellow Guernsey competitor John Richardson back in 2011, is looking for 3A world glory in the waters of St Peter Port this year as well.
But in his first test of the 'Top Secret' boat built by his father and former world championships competitor Mark, young Sauvarin and his navigator Diogo Freitas found out first-hand the extra speed it possesses.
Mark, who designed and built the boat himself, explained: 'They tested it out for the first time on Sunday evening and managed to flip the boat, chucking them both out of it,' he said.
'All of the safety measures were in place, so no harm was done apart from being a bit bruised, but that is part and parcel of racing.'
The vast majority of the visiting competing boats have been arriving in the island over the past day or so, with the first championship round of three taking place at 9am on Thursday.
The championships continue throughout the weekend.
