Taking place at the same time as the Fina World Aquatics Championships in Russia, the 19-year-old Sarnian took advantage of the absence of some big names to take first place in Friday evening's final in 49.65sec. – the first time he has gone sub-50 in a 50m pool and slashing 0.7sec. off his previous best.
'The guys were a little bit ahead of me at the turn but in the back end I gave it everything I had,' said Munro, who was representing Bath University.
