Gallienne steps up to the plate for triumphant England
WITH two Sarnians in their ranks, England's under-18s made history by becoming the country's first team to be crowned world indoor nets champions.
The under-18 women's side were one of three England teams to compete in Brisbane and had as their vice-captain Alice Gallienne, who was also the group's most experienced player.
As well as that, Gill Queripel was the team's manager as they recorded a series of famous victories and upset the favourites to finish on top of the world.
After seeing off the challenge of both South Africa and hosts Australia to lift the trophy in the age-group championships, Queripel said that England had exceeded expectations.
'We knew it was going to be tough over there but we were targeting a place in the final because we knew the quality we had if we put it all together,' she said.
'So winning silver was probably the realistic target but the team did fantastically well, played superbly and held their nerve at the key times in the big games,' added the team manager.
