Raiders cage the Bird
RAIDERS managed to keep the league’s leading try scorer, Henry Bird, at bay as they thrillingly held on to post a rare win at National Two level.
In doing so, they leapfrogged London Irish Wild Geese and climbed off the bottom rung.
Win against the London-based Irish next week and, who knows, a miracle escape may gain momentum.
For months the home coach has talked about producing an 80min. performance and here, in front of another bumper Garenne Stand crowd on the club’s Ladies Day, they did just that and secured a bonus point with it thanks to a 24-17 victory.
Old Reds badly missed their first choice fly half Kieran Hill, while for the home side Kiwi Doug Horrocks was outstanding, closely followed by fellow back rower George Shannon.
The Raiders tries came from Shannon, Nick Merrien, Luke Sayer and a penalty try.
