Multiple KPMG Summer League champions Source will join 15 other mixed teams in Maidenhead for an event running Saturday to Sunday, with teams from across Europe set to provide tough competition.

Source had brought back multiple silverware from last year’s Summer League, winning the coveted Mixed Cup as well as the round-robin mixed and ladies’ divisions.

They are currently on track for a similar haul of honours in this year’s league, which features 369 players across 29 teams.

The team that has commanded local competition will enjoy the chance to play at a much higher level.

Guernsey Touch chairman and Source star Ollie Ward describes the event as an ‘exciting competition for Guernsey to have received an invitation to attend’.

‘Having won the 2018 Mixed Summer League title, the committee decided to offer the opportunity to Source to compete at this event,’ added Ward, one of 14 travelling players.

‘Should the championship event prove a success, this is the format we intend to follow each year in order to give extra motivation to local teams competing in the KPMG Summer League.’

Source has been competing in the Summer League since 2007. Despite not winning their first title until 2012, they have had heavy domestic success in recent years, taking the ‘title triple’ for three years running in 2015-2017.

Source captain Harry Burns also eagerly anticipates the test ahead.

‘The whole team is looking forward to this weekend and have been training hard for it,’ he said.

‘It will be a challenging competition, with many of the players we will be facing having played in this year’s Touch World Cup, but the team is up for it.

‘I must also say a big thanks to Source Recruitment who have supported us for more than a decade and have helped fund tournament fees and travel costs.’

Teams have been seeded into three pools and each team will play each other once in their respective pool to determine who will compete in the cup, plate and bowl competitions. In order to fit all of the games in, they will be 25 minutes long.

Sunday will see games played in the cup, plate and bowl to determine who makes it to the respective finals of each competition.

Games on field one will be live-streamed on YouTube via the England Touch channel.

Domestically, Source have their place booked for the upcoming Mixed Cup final after trampling CCL Sharks 11-1 CCL Sharks in Wednesday’s semis.

Electric Shocks will provide the opposition after inching past KPMG 4-3 that same evening. The final is set for on 23 August.
