JOSH LEWIS has learned a few lessons from a brief yet brutal stint in Super League Jersey on Saturday.

While neither the Guernsey ace nor home prospect Ollie Turner progressed into yesterday’s professional final, the Jerseyman ultimately managed to go the distance in the fast-paced Enduro race.

On the other hand, Ravenscroft-supported Lewis had been eliminated by the end of the first mini-triathlon after falling 90 seconds behind the leader.

In a race encompassing two legs each of 300m swim, 4km bike and 1.6km run, Turner left the water with the front group and continued to challenge the international elite as Lewis struggled to get going.

Lewis had an early ‘knock-around’ with a buoy and continued to fall further back on the standard set by world champion Vincent Luis, with the unlucky backmarker eventually denied the chance to start the follow-up ‘tri’.

Luis led the quality field home and Turner just beat the clock, finishing 10th overall, while Lewis reflected on his short outing from the sidelines.

‘I didn’t execute the swim as planned and ended up coming out of it last, and then you’re out of the game,’ said the Guernseyman.

‘With a field like that and the nature of the format, you can’t afford to make any mistakes – and I made one in the swim.

‘Tactical and execution errors really expose you in this sort of racing at this level and I have a lot to learn in that respect and improve on.

‘I’ve only had three years of that experience in comparison to their 10-plus. That will definitely be an aspect of racing I’ll be working on for next season.

‘It was a privilege to race at this level and I hope to be given the chance in the future to redeem myself. I’m so pleased for Ollie as he was able to truly represent what he’d been working on over the season and I can’t wait to be able to do that myself.’

Elsewhere, Andrea Nightingale gave Guernsey some joy as part of a Ravenscroft corporate Enduro team.

The veteran ‘Worlds’ competitor had joined Lewis’ girlfriend Issy Morris and Jersey’s Jack Kennedy in a trio that placed second overall and won the clients and friends category.
