Armstrong runs riot as Raiders tame the Stags

CS STAGS 1863 won’t want to see Anthony Armstrong again any time soon.

Or to be more precise, they won’t want to be looking as his clean pairs of heels again.

The flame-haired, fleet-footed fullback had an absolute field day at Footes Lane on Saturday, scoring four of the 11 Raiders tries and barely seemed to break sweat in doing so.

Just how quickly he could cover 100m on the brand new athletics track became a fun debate in the Garenne Stand as he continually blazed a trail through the Stags defensive line, leaving most of the visitors grasping at shadows on a sunny autumn afternoon while those who got close enough to lay a hand on him were unceremoniously brushed aside.

But, in fairness, this was far from a one-man show, with Joe Andresen another to score a hat-trick while the whole backline were on blistering form.

Their attacking prowess could be summed up in three Ss – simple, slick and scintillating.

‘From a backline point of view I thought we did really well,’ said coach Jordan Reynolds after the 71-22 win.

‘It was a lot better than what we were doing last week, I think we just kicked away a bit too much possession last week, this week we tried to play with a little more intent.

‘We practiced a lot on the areas we wanted to do that and we got it - 71 points, that’s not bad.'
