Reynolds worried by Raiders’ form
RAIDERS are still in the thick of the title race – but quick improvement is needed for things to stay that way according to their head coach.
Jordan Reynolds was left shaking his head in frustration after an error-strewn display in a 29-19 win over London Irish Wild Geese on Saturday at Footes Lane.
The good news was that Guernsey scored the necessary four tries to pick up a bonus-point that keeps them within two points of leaders Rochford Hundred and three ahead of Wimbledon, but that was of little consolation to their coach.
‘We’re so complacent at the moment it’s not funny ... we’re just not on song at the moment and it’s very worrying,’ Reynolds said.
‘Last week we almost lost, today we almost lost again, we lost to Rochford and we almost got beat by Hertford – I’m not sure when the light’s going to flick on for the guys.’
Raiders fell behind twice in the opening 25 minutes but eventually emerged victorious thanks to two tries from Matt Armstrong and one each from Brad Webb and Joe Andresen.
However, they arguably only played well for no more than a quarter-of-an-hour and also added another yellow card to their recent tally with Jacob Pinkney sent to the sin bin.
‘We should be a better side than how we’re playing at the moment and unless we correct this, the season will be lost,' Reynolds said.
‘You’ve seen it here against Rochford, Hertford and today – we’re in second gear, we can’t get out of second gear, and that’s the most disappointing thing. I don’t know where our heads are at. That’s something we need to clarify quickly.’
