Seb gets a full season
SEB PRIAULX’S American adventure is to take in a full year in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.
The Guernseyman has been confirmed for the remainder of the season, with the Multimatic-contracted driver set to pilot a Ford Mustang GT4 in the remaining nine rounds, as part of a planned championship run in the GS class.
The 19-year-old was confirmed by Ford on Monday, which will see Priaulx share the wheel of the Mustang GT4 with Ford Performance development driver Hailie Deegan in five races, including next week’s round at Sebring International Raceway.
Deegan, who made her IMSA debut at Daytona in a separate Multimatic Mustang GT4 entry, will also race at Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen International, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta this year.
The No. 22 Mustang GT4 will carry sponsorship from Ford Performance Racing School for the full season.
Priaulx claimed victory in his Pilot Challenge debut at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta last year alongside Austin Cindric, with the duo having kicked off the 2020 season at Daytona.
It came after an impressive rookie season of the British GT Championship for Priaulx, also in a Multimatic-entered Mustang GT4.
Sportscar365 understands that Cindric’s NASCAR commitments have prevented him from contesting additional races with the team.
Ford has yet to detail who will co-drive with Priaulx in the four remaining races, although Sebastian’s father, Andy, is also contracted to Multimatic this year.
One potential hurdle could be the ex-factory Ford GT star’s driver rating, which, as of 2019, was Platinum, prohibited in Pilot Challenge competition.
