Keeper Hamon scores 'null and void' a nil
GUERNSEY has its own table-topper who has been hit hard by the FA’s decision to expunge all this season’s results from Step 3 down.
Goalkeeper James Hamon had helped Truro City to first place in the Southern League Premier Division South before the Covid-19 pandemic brought the season to a halt.
Now the White Tigers have joined the large number of non-league clubs, now up to 66 also including the Jersey Bulls, to appeal the decision that declared the 2019-20 null and void.
‘Anyone who's played a season of football knows it has its massive highs and its massive lows, so to have completed around 80% of that for the FA to then null and void it is heartbreaking,’ said 24-year-old Hamon, who joined Truro last summer.
‘It’s the players, managers and coaches that have been released during the season I feel for. They’ve lost jobs, an income, maybe for some stability for their family, and it’s now all for nothing.
‘I don’t think it’s fair on those guys to null and void the season.’
The Paul Wotton-managed White Tigers had won 21, drawn four and lost six of the 31 games they had played. They were top by one point, but with two games in hand on Chesham United in second. 'Our league position shows we have been consistent this season and we have kept a fair few clean sheets as well as having one of the best defensive records in the league,’ said Hamon.
‘I’d like to think I’ve played my part in that. From a personal point of view I think to have a year playing regularly week in week out has certainly helped me and I feel I’ve improved on the pitch and been a lot more consistent with my performances.’
