Gillease frustrated by North tactics

THE title is Saints’ to lose.

Another awkward obstacle cleared with a 4-2 win over Manzur, coupled with Rovers’ goalless draw with Northerners, means that the black-and-whites will go top with a win from one of the three games they have in hand on the men from Port Soif.

Inspired by two-goal Danny Hale, once ahead at the Track Saints never looked like slipping up.

Rovers, in contrast, were limp up front in their first game since Fin Whitmore headed back to university.

Coach Kevin Gillease was naturally unhappy, particularly with referee Ross de Carteret for not tackling what he saw as constant time-wasting by dogged visitors.

‘The second half North had a tactic of just waste as much time and make it as unfootball-like as they could and Ross fell for it big time.

‘Why he didn’t speed them up I can’t understand. I can’t get my head around it.

‘He made no attempt to hurry the game up and I think he just ruined the game. It wasn’t football.

‘We should have been three or four up first half. We will keep going.’

Unquestionably, the result of the day came at St Andrew’s where a Sylvans side, who were still in the title hunt a week ago, crashed 4-0 to a Steffan Timms-inspired Rangers.

Belgraves eased to a 4-1 win in Alderney, Steve Renouf scoring twice.
