The 17-year-old Sarnian played the first 77 minutes of the Robins’ opening Championship game of the season in front of more than 17,000 supporters, some of whom were immediately singing 'he's one of our own', and left the action having helped his side into a 1-0 lead. An injury-time Blackpool equaliser saw the match finish 1-1.

In his post-match interview with the club’s in-house media team, it was put to manager Nigel Pearson that Scott ‘did well for a young man didn’t he?’.

‘He did very well, but he can handle it so I’m not worried about it,’ said Pearson.

‘I’m not bothered about people’s age, whether they are very, very young or very, very old in footballing terms, if they are capable of doing a job that’s needed to be done then I’m really happy to expose them to it.

‘Alex can reflect on today’s performance and know that he performed well.’

Pearson added that City were disappointed not to take all three points having taken a deserved half-time lead through Chris Martin’s 150th career goal. Despite dominating the game, they could not convert any more of several chances.

‘I thought we looked solid, it’s how football sometimes goes,’ said the manager.

‘It would have been great to get off to the perfect start and for the fans it would have been just reward for their patience getting back to Ashton Gate.

‘It was a great atmosphere and I feel privileged to have been a part of today, to get back into the stadium where people’s emotions are up and down.

‘Our fans have been through the mill a bit, from being elated to being in front and then the last kick of the game puts a different slant on it.’
