The Green Lions return to winning ways
GUERNSEY FC secured a first win in six on Saturday afternoon with a narrow 2-1 victory over Chalfont St Peter.
The Green Lions struck twice in the first half, as Ben Acey headed home from five yards before Will Fazakerley nutmegged goalkeeper Parslow to double his side’s advantage.
Micah Jackson got one back for the relegation play-off bound Chalfont with a curling effort in the 58th minute, although his strike wasn’t enough for the visitors as Tony Vance’s side held on to secure a first win since mid-March.
‘It was a frustrating one, I think that is definitely the best way to describe it,’ said the Guernsey boss.
‘In the first half we played really nice football but I think the missing piece of the jigsaw was the final third – it wasn’t quite connecting and it wasn’t really good enough.
‘When we couldn’t make the ball stick they kept counter-attacking and created some good opportunities.
‘We were lucky the penalty was missed and managed to avoid a different scenario.
‘All that aside, there was a lot of positive play and if we were a little bit better in front of goal it would have been comfortable.
‘I thought Tom Dodds really stood out, I asked him to go out and be a good Kez Mahon replacement and he was just that, he broke up everything they had.
‘At the end of the day, all that matters in this league is the three points, that is the most important thing,’ he added.
