Adam Jory is making his 15th appearance in the ‘Queen’s 100’ but there are two newcomers, Nick Kerins, the Guernsey team captain, and Ollie Hudson. Luke Malcic lost a two-man tie shoot for the 100th place in the final.

The Jory brothers, Peter and Adam, both Commonwealth Games marksmen, have been hugely successful in rifle-shooting competitions for several decades but one of the sweetest wins of all, perhaps, came this week when they won ‘The Families’, a much sought after trophy and one they have been competing for at Bisley for 30 years.

The award is concurrent with the first stage of the Queen’s Prize and open to pairs of close relatives whose combined scores are the highest in the three-range shoot.

The first stage of the Queen’s Prize was also particularly successful for nine other members of the Guernsey team who progressed through to the second stage.

Adam Jory’s highest possible 105 ex 105 led the island squad’s scores, with the following also making the cut into Stage II – Peter Jory, Nick Kerins, Nick Mace, Freddie Stewart, Alexander Stewart, Ollie Hudson, Luke Malcic, Rory Johnson, Rollo Tiffin and Pierre Goubert.

Alexander Stewart, the Elizabeth College cadet, has been awarded the Ben Miles Memorial Trophy for his aggregate scores in the Grand Aggregate competitions at 900 and 1,000 yards – in effect, he has become the GB long-range cadet champion for this year.

In the Kolapore international match at 300, 500 and 600 yards, Guernsey was fourth behind Great Britain, Australia and Canada but ahead of Jersey and Kenya.

The final of the Queen’s Prize takes place this afternoon.
