Top two go head-to-head at Northfield

TOP spot in the FNB Priaulx League is up for grabs on Grand Fort Road this evening, as leaders Rovers make the trip to Northfield looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season.

A win for Jose Alvarez’s team would see them reach the summit of the league for the first time in a number of months, while Kevin Gillease’s side just need to avoid defeat to stay in first.

The Port Soif outfit’s unbeaten run was ended at the weekend, as visitors Bels came from behind to win 2-1.

North continued their recent run of good form, beating Rangers 2-0 on Friday evening to close the gap at the top to just two points.

‘It makes tonight’s game more important, for sure. It is a game we wanted to win anyway, but now we definitely do not want to go out and lose a second game in a row,’ said the Rovers coach.

‘We do not need to remind the lads of the importance of it – they want to go out there and make it right.

‘You do not become a bad team after one game. We will be well up for it and we will be ready to go and deliver.

‘They will be very solid as always, they have a very good squad and any team in this league can go out and win any game.

‘It will be interesting to see who they have got available for them with some of their squad also committed to GFC, but we will be full-strength.’
