Saints close in as the top two draw
THE champions are closing in ominously on the top two in the FNB Priaulx League.
While leaders Rovers and second-placed Northerners were cancelling each other out in a goalless Port Soif stalemate on Saturday afternoon, St Martin’s were making it four wins on the trot to draw level with the chocolate-and-blues on 25 points, five behind Rovers who have played a game more that their two main rivals.
Alex Roussel gave Saints the lead against Sylvans at Blanche Pierre Lane and George Mason headed home a second before half-time.
Ollie Smith completed the scoring in a convincing 3-0 victory after the interval for Saints, who have gone through November and December unbeaten, picking up 16 points from six games.
The game of the day, though, came at the Track where Belgrave Wanderers and Vale Rec shared the points in a 3-3 thriller.
Louis Travis gave the visitors the lead before Jack Welch equalised but Rec were ahead again by half-time with Tiago Rodrigues having come off the bench to score.
Twelve minutes into the second half Brent Marquand pulled Bels level again and they took the lead when Brad Foss latched onto Reece Le Brun’s long ball and scored.
However, Glenn Le Tissier struck on 90min. to ensure Rec took home a share of the spoils.
Meanwhile, at Footes Lane Guernsey FC’s game with Hanworth Villa was abandoned with less than 15 minutes played following a nasty injury to visiting player Tom Scott.
