Husband-and-wife Ian and Alison are representing Guernsey at the IIBC World Indoor Bowls Championships, which begin on Sunday in Warilla.

They will competing in the singles as well as joining forces in the mixed pairs, which Alison won alongside Stewart Anderson in Bristol last year when they were paired together as the defending singles champions from 2020.

‘I am looking forward to going back to Warilla, it will be good to catch up with some friends that we haven’t seen for quite a few years,’ said Alison, who has been drawn with representatives from USA, Malaysia, Singapore and the Cook Islands in her singles section.

‘The World Indoor Champs this year has over 30 countries participating which will make a excellent competition and I cannot wait to get started.

‘I will be aiming to improve my performance from last year where I was knocked out in the quarter-final of the singles.’

Ian will be facing opponents from Falkland Islands, Wales, Japan, the Netherlands and Norfolk Islands in his singles section.

‘I have been performing consistently this season, so if I can extend that to these World Champs I will be happy,’ he said.

‘It’s always great to play with Ali in the mixed pairs. Obviously, she is a great player and we work well together, that’s why we got a silver medal in 2018.’
