Hosts are seeded to be among the medals

GUERNSEY have been seeded to reach the final of the women’s team event in the draw for the Island Games.

The Sarnian quintet, captained by Jo Dyer, are second seeds and will begin their campaign against the Cayman Islands in the quarter-finals of a competition in which Isle of Man are the top seeds.

The Guernsey men’s team are fourth seeds in their 11-entries event and so have received a bye through to the quarter-finals in which they will face Aland.

Jersey are the top seeds with Menorca second and Bermuda third.

A busy week of tennis at Longcamps will start with the team events and there will be 22 rubbers played across the two draws to decide the champions.

Rubbers will consist of two singles matches, with a deciding doubles to be played if the score is level at one match all.

Once the team finals have taken place on the Monday, competition moves on to the men’s and women’s singles as well as the three doubles disciplines.

Multiple Island Game medallist Patrick Ogier is third seed in the men’s singles while Dyer and Lauren Lauren Watson-Steele are second and fourth seeds respectively in the women’s singles.

In the doubles, Ogier and Rob West are fourth seeds in the men’s while Gotland 2017 gold medallists West and Dyer are top seeds in the mixed.

A total of 80 players from 12 islands will compete across the seven events using the six courts at the Guernsey Tennis Club.

Play will begin each morning at 9am and is expected to conclude around 9pm.
