Guernsey’s first-ever netball development officer is moving on after two years in the role, allowing her to charge into a high-level rugby union career for Hong Kong Scottish.

Scottish are at the top of the region’s Championship A and pushing to regain their former place in the HK Premiership.

Fallaize will take up a job as an English teacher alongside it, for it is not a professional contract, but she will receive some funding towards travel and accommodation.

‘I am really enjoying my rugby at the moment and I thought I would like to progress it a bit more,’ the Guernsey Raiders Ladies player said.

‘Being able to get overseas is something I have been wanting to do for a while, and if I can combine that with rugby to get some different experience, I’m quite excited.’

Fallaize received the offer from Scottish after applying for overseas rugby opportunities.

She joins three UK players in moving across to the team and is looking forward to helping their promotion push.

‘It’s a big season for them as they try to get back into the top league, so they’ve been planning to invest quite a lot into their women’s team this year.’

Fallaize will still be in the island until late September, by when it is hoped a new netball development officer will have been found.

The long-term netballer says she is ‘really grateful’ for her two years in that role and also ‘really proud’ of what she had achieved.

‘There’s some exciting things coming out this season that it would have been nice to be a part of,’ she said.

‘But I am happy with what I have done in the last two years and I am in a good position to be able to hand over to someone else.’

Regular colleague Jeremy Frith, who fulfils a performance director role in both netball and the Guernsey Sports Commission, thanked her for her hard work and enthusiasm.

‘She has contributed to the transformation of everything that’s happening in netball and brought a lot of great ideas and enthusiasm but actually made stuff happen, which is the big thing,’ he said.

‘That’s key for a development officer.’

‘She’s amazing – she’s a Fallaize.’

  • Information about the development officer role is available on the Guernsey Netball Association’s Facebook page and applications close on 4 September.
