Luck goes against the Green Lions
BADSHOT LEA extended their winning streak in the Channel Islands to three from three on Saturday.
After beating Jersey Bulls on both their visits to Springfield before their promotion to Isthmian South Central, they inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Guernsey FC at Footes Lane on Saturday.
However, it was a scoreline that did not reflect a game in which the Green Lions led at half-time through Matt Loaring and then hit the woodwork three times after the interval as luck went against them in a generally positive performance from a side missing Charlton Gauvain, Ross Allen and Kieran Mahon.
‘Obviously I’m really disappointed and frustrated we didn’t get a win,’ said GFC manager Tony Vance.
‘First half, for pretty much 35 minutes, we were in control, needed to get that second goal I think, but I was still pretty comfortable. The first [Badshot Lea] goal was disappointing because we contributed to that ... then we got the assist for their second goal through Matty hitting an amazing shot that hit the crossbar and bounced towards the halfway line for them to go and attack – that’s just ridiculous [luck], but that’s just us isn’t it?
‘Brandon hit the post with an outstanding effort, Matty again hit the crossbar, we should have had a penalty – that’s a foul anywhere else on the pitch – but the ref bottled that one.
‘Those are all moments in the game where they can dictate a result and they all went against us unfortunately.
‘But I’m really proud of the group,’ he added.
